Relaxing Weekend

Dave and I enjoyed a wonderful weekend as we took a little road trip to visit our boy and his lovely wife.  Trust me there is not a day that goes by I wish my children lived down the street from me or still in the same house, but I remember we did a good job raising them to fly out in to the world and live life to the fullest.

This is my son Matt and his wife Elena.  They took us to this great restaurant with amazing food.  I wish I had taken a photo of my sandwich {turkey, pear/cranberry chutney with walnuts}, but I attacked it as soon as it was put in front of me along with fire roasted jo-jo's.

After lunch we spotted a little tucked away just opened cupcakery.  Cute little shop; and the new owner was so very proud of her new business.  She even had the same color robin egg blue Volkswagen with her logo on it parked out front.  She paid close attention to detail; as what you should do when opening up a shop.  Nothing was left without branding.  One minor complaint I had was the frosting.  Sorry, I am not a fan of unsalted whipped butter with a splash of vanilla for buttercream icing.  Please people add a pinch or two of salt to bring out the flavors of the vanilla and the sugar.  It was just too bland for me.

We had a beautiful drive home along the river, and I was super happy to get out of our snow.  Amazing just a few 90 miles away and there is no snow.  We were buried this year.

Sunday I was determined to make a Sunday dinner and invite my sisters!!  I've been dying to make Kara's chocolate cake and this was the perfect time.  People make this cake; it is so good.  I also opted not to use your basic buttercream frosting; and instead used Trisha Yearwood's caramel icing recipe.  Oh good heavenly days.  It's a tough one to make, but so worth it.  Whoa.  I think I am okay on sweets for awhile.  Back to clean living today!!

I'm home today with some type of crud that is going around.  Either that or I had way too many sweets!! :)

Happy Week to all!!
